Dogen Zenji, 1200-1253, japanese zen-master and founder of the Sōtō school of Zen in Japan. He is most known for the "Treasury of the Eye of the True Dharma" or "Shōbōgenzō", a collection of ninety-five fascicles concerning Buddhist practice and enlightenment.
He attained enlightment under the leading of his chinese master Nyojo. It happened one night during zazen. A monk who sat near Dogen dropped off. Nyojo said very loud: Cast off body and mind. Why are you asleep? Hearing these words Dogen realized liberation of body and mind.
