Ikkyu Sojun (1394-1481), zen-priest and poet, is one of the most eccentric characters in the japanese zen-history. He called himself "the blind dullard". He liked to drink red wine and to make love (one should not overestimate that).
For many years he lived as a vagabond.
Ikkyu worked to live Zen outside of formal religious institutions.

Poem
As Ikkyu does not think of his body
As if it were his body,
He lives in the same place,
Whether it is town or country.
